praxismy rejection of branding and embrace of small interpersonal networks over mass platforms hasn't really been profitable for me, though that wasn't really the goal lol
calandar php projectso basically i do this with ICal, vCal and php, i think there are already *Cal extensions to convert most calandars anyway, and i can do some basic math in php, basically encoding the metonic cycles and use ntp to sinc everything up,
So you open up localhost/calandar and it's just a bunch of calandars showing the same day, as well as year using different time keeping conventions, halocene calandar, chinese calandar, hebrew calandar, persion calandar, could also easily link up all the Holidays around the world
A solar-lunar calendar and holidays on the full moon are two of the similarities between Chinese and Jewish traditions. There are cultural similarities as well: Jewish and Chinese children are likely to do well in school. On the other hand, there is nothing in Chinese tradition that in any way resembles Kashrut, since pork, dog meat, and donkey meat are all part of China’s culinary tradition.
pretty sure this is some AI slop... from article comparing Chinese and Hebrew Calandars. LLM's have a habit of saying the quiet part out loud that tells on the english language
The Trial of the Jesuits A Chinese official, Yáng Gu¯ang Xi¯an (í ), had as his slogan that it was “better to have a wrong calendar than to have foreigners in China". Yáng managed to have the Jesuits arrested in 1664. A solar eclipse was coming up and while in prison, the Jesuits predicted it would occur at 3 pm, Yáng predicted 2.15 pm, and the Muslim Wú Míng Xuˇan (ÇÒ®) predicted 2.30 pm. On the day of the eclipse, the Jesuits were brought into the palace in chains, and everybody watched as the eclipse occurred at 3pm sharp! Unfortunately, the regents were not impressed and the Jesuits were sentenced to death. However, the next day a strong earthquake struck Beijing. This was taken as a sign from Heaven that the sentence was unjust, and the sentence of the Jesuits was first converted to flogging and eventually to just house arrest.
the new Q¯ıng rulers and presented his cal- culations for an upcoming solar eclipse. He challenged the Chinese and the Muslim as- tronomers in the Bureau, and the Jesuits’ calculations were best. Schall was appointed director of the Bureau. The next year, he formulated the current rules for the Chinese calendar.
well that certainly was ballsy, if he did that in the Vatican they'd execute his ass
@BLA@dgar but yeah on the guitar -> keyboard transitioning, while i can rock out on some keys, what annoys me about piano is you can't just wing it, when it comes to scales, the notes are relative on a guitar, with piano roll you need to learn each scale and who has time for that?
decolonize timei think we should move to a totally different system of time keeping than
As for years, instead of the BCE/CE which is, despite it's secular gloss, incredibly Euro/Roman/Christian centric
A modern and universal system of year counting would not start counting history at such an arbitary and biased point, rather if we begin from say the discovery of agriculture and so we get an intuitive grasp of how old human societies really are, and it makes it easy to line up dates from different regions, there is already such a system that starts around 10,000 years ago or 8000 BCE, check it out
When it comes to years, months and weeks, the 7 day week is basically here to stay, there's no possible way you could replace it with anything, nor should you. just like 24hr time of some variation is basically fixed, tho we should maybe move the national date line somewhere that doesn't happen to land in specifically in england lmao, how about hawaii or eastern tip of siberia? seems much more logical for the day to start in the" east and set in the west" the shear hubris of the English to set themselves literally at the center of the world, the spot where the sun rises and sets, fuck you,, how could we let them pull this off? this would also force people to think about how most humans are in asia, which is
anyway a solar lunar calandar is obviously the way to go, there are numerous variations already in existence, i think the buddhist religious calandars are generally solar/lunar, iran has a pretty dope calandar ngl
while i think we should study or even keep track of various calendars just for fun and learning, most traditional calandars are marred by certain innacuracies or arbitrary conventions like their western cousins, so for a modern scientifically informated calandar we could possible draw form existing calandars but need a synesthetis that takes best elements of various traditions while striving to be strictly scientifically accurate.
The Islamic lunar calendar is very interesting before the days of the month are not fixed, iirc the stages of the moon must directly observed by a muslim astronomer, which is actually imo highly emperical, and it makes each month unique and of different lengths without arbitrary deciding on fixed lengths, the fact a couple billion people are already using it, could just use the islamic calandar as base and put it on top of a lunar calandar, like for example the hebrew calandar, get imams and rabbis to agree on it's standardization which may go through some tweeks, there boom, world peace.
I would imagine you could just kinda lay different lunar and solar calandars on top of each other, and tweak them to line up with celestial time, actually would probably be more effective than building yet another niche neo calandar no one uses, just create a big array of calandars and line them up, yish
uspol trump hot takeSo uh, normalizing relations with North Korea is a good idea, for everyone in Korea and the world, and had the US done that by now they wouldn't be sending soldiers to Ukraine. When libs make fun of Trump for maybe the one objectively positive thing he tried to you they really tell on themselves.
@cyrus this is the best explanation of the problem i've read --
on featuring posts from remote users, there should really be some research on that, i imagine there's a few ways to do this that could result in more or less bandwidth. Like let's the fetching is all done client side, and is only done explicitly when the user requests 'more comments' flood limits could be implemented to prevent abuse, that would be better than just auto retrieving, i hope that's how those current plugins work lol
on the question of relays and such, personally i think this is just inevitable in the long run, there also doesn't have to be one canonical relay, could have a variety of relays that admins opt-in to, this could have other benefits like for example, allowing small instances to piggy back off of large instance, giving them a larger view of global network.
I've of the opinion that fed devs are a bit too caught up on the limitations of AP as such, there are many ways that servers on a network can communicate beyond AP to get around these limitations ( i might be wrong but iirc webfinger, which is essential for all fedi instances i'm aware of is just one way of retrieving user information )
tanks on USSRit's weird how tankies will justify certain things but not others, like dekulakization or non-aggression pact with Hitler were necessitated by historical conditions, but then Khrushchev denouncing Stalin or adopting the 'peaceful coexistence' line ( which was obviously never sincere, the USSR continued to arm revolutionary movements abroad like in Vietnam ) this is to them was not something necessitated by historical conditions in order to preserve socialism against widespread popular resentment against stalinist policies and the threat of nuclear war, but an act of revisionism, a betrayal of socialism etc.
zionist youtuber schaudenfreud whateverbad empanada is a prick but destroying these psuedo progressive IDF bootlickers who refer to entire cities in the West Bank as "terrorist cities" absolutely fuck these people www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z1REKH-bs8
