did a fuckin captcha wall, took longer than expected, because there's always some dumbass typo somewhere, captchas are annoying and inaccessible, and you have to do all this bullshit to make them not an attack vector, so rate limit the fuck out of them, but still implemented it cuz it's kindof a necessary evil to filter out the low hanging fruit at least to have it as an option, and a lot of aspects of the captcha system can be used to make a better shit filter, like replace the image challenge with some kind of quiz / trick question.
