@0x4d6165 i have mixed feelings on that, like yeah we shouldn't put people on a pedestals and venerate these old bearded white dudes and argue over who is the true heir or whatever, marx and engels were even for their time very racist in a 19th century german kind of way. I also don't think it's necessary or even advisable to tell people to just 'read marx' without first going thru some contemporary secondary materials, because you won't get much out of it without being familiar with German Idealism and Political Economy.Like the frankfurt school they would frame it like Marx was the first modern economist/sociologist, like what Nietzsche was for Philosophy and Freud for Psychology. We shouldn't read any of them uncritically, we also shouldn't just disregard what they clearly got right.
But then again it's like, none of these guys really discovered anything, socialism, the theory of class struggle predates marx, the unconscious predates Freud etc. These dudes contributed to a set of theories, a body of knowledge that never belonged to them. So as an anarchist one can read / quote marx, utilize the dialectical method, but not be strictly bound to it either.
