Computer struggles, input welcome Some weeks ago I knocked a loom over next to my open laptop and got a crack in the lower right corner of the screen. The impact area is about 2”x2”, with an area of screen extending up from that that displays a lovely array of colors in vertical stripes, but nothing that was previously visible there. This was fine, I just resized my windows and carried on since the area horizontal to the crack was still working ok, and thats the area I actually need for opening programs.

Unfortunately, conditions have deteriorated and it looks like the bottom two inches of my screen are close to being pretty abstract lines full-time.

So I probably do actually need to do something about this. My options as I see them are:

1. Take the screen to someone to fix it.
Probably the most sensible option but the most expensive, and I think it’s likely I just can’t afford it

2. Switch to the desktop that’s somewhere in the garage and might still work? Or another unused desktop computer that’s around that I could maybe get some help switching to some kind of Linux. This is very appealing to me and kind of sounds like a nightmare, I’m not particularly comfortable tinkering with technology more modern than a jack loom.

3. No more computer, embrace my true Luddite nature. The option I most want to do but that is probably the least advisable. But wow do I dream of having no computer and no phone. I know I’m not ready to accept the trade offs that comes with though. Not yet at least.

Probably should just ask around about what the cheapest computer repair option is around here. It would be cool to make this the thing that gets me off an apple product/OS and onto some Linux/open source OS thing but I don’t know if there’s a Linux distro that’s easy enough for someone like me.
