Nazi Germany, collective force
When I was a kid I remember people would ask, 'what would you do in Nazi Germany? and the sad answer is that we would do the exact some thing because individuals are powerless without mass organization. If we are not organized in bonds of solidarity we are absolutely subject to the external organizations. A human being in moved by these collective forces just as naturally as leaves are carried by the wind. Lone individuals are absolutely determined, organized individuals at least have contingency.
