@azalea oh right yeah, a minority of protesters compared jan 6th to HK protesters storming the legislative council (2019-07-01), so violent protest is fine for Good people, just not the Bad onesit's disturbing how many HK protesters were pro-trump and bought into the same bullshit that led to jan 6th, but while both movements look similar to those involved (storming the legislature to protest an undemocratic institution), it's not the same is it
jan 6th was based on a bunch of provably unfounded conspiracy theories, the HK protests were based on a government pushing through an unpopular policy
if you want to boil it down further the unpopularity of the extradition law the protests were about is based on fears about china but I don't think they're unfounded
for the record I'm pro-HK protests and think the demands were reasonable, I'm just not comfortable with how there was a clear right-wing turn
