transphobia, terf psycologyI'm over generalizing and doing some armchair psycho-analyzing here, but I don't think this is a coincidence.
With TERF's there's probably a lot of insecurity and projection going on where they themselves have been bullied and invalidated for "looking like a man" for their jaw lines or shoulders or deep voices or any trait that could be singled out for being "manly" but the way they were always able to counter this is "No, I am a woman! I have a pussy and a uterus!" so they hate men for this ( not unreasonable ) and feel they've had to fight to affirm their own gender identity (they have), but because they accept traditionalist genital based definitions of gender and fail to recognize how this is itself a patriarchal construct -- including the implicit biblical concept that to be a women is a curse, and their fate is beyond their control -- the existence of trans-women explodes this entire framework and terrifies them; if trans women are women, the basis of their gender identity evaporates. They falsely see trans women as some conspiracy by "men" to take away the gender identity which they've had to fight for, so ironically the end up siding with misogynistic anti-feminists in the process.
I am probably oversimplifying but if you've spent any time arguing with TERF's it won't be long before these references to school yard bullying come up. Or they'll point to a butch lesbian and be like "See, she's not a trans man, she identifies as a women, trans ideology destroyed" as if anyone was calling that into question. Who is saying she's a man? One gets the impression these TERF's are haunted by their elementary school bullies who point and sing "You're a boy! You're a boy!" all day long. Again, I'm speculating, also extrapolating a bit from my experience as a boy who has an androgynous name and traits that are considered "girly" I understand that trauma, tho my way of coping was more leaning into the "girly" aspects of myself, because bitches love that 😉 ( jk, sheesh) but in the end, even though I've dealt with a lot of gender dysphoria, i'm still cis, I'm not just a man because I have a dick, this is a choice I've made, to be a man because that works best for me. I really appreciate your enthusiasm brother, and I've been saying the fediverse needs more Soul for a while, when the Hood learns about the fediverse, that they can control their own social media and don't have to worry about corporate censorship, it's over with.
Alot of people get caught up on negatives, and yeah there are problems, technically and culturally, but nothing that can't be worked through. people will learn and adapt. And decentralized open source networks open up so many possibilities in terms of community building or cultural renewal that we've barely scratched the surface of.
Jitsi is based on Jabber, which is a decentralized messaging platform, most Jabber servers have video and audio calls built in.
Friendica is dope, especially because it's on both the ActivityPub and Diaspora network, the interface is kinda clunky tho and a lot of people don't like it for that reason, personally I'm on the Misskey variants, this one is IceShrimp and my main alt is Sharkey, both have been modern and fun interfaces.
That is i a barrier to a lot of people is just picking a platform or finding an instance they can vibe with, but for most people Mastodon is just fine to get started
